Meet Mrs. Widler

Meet Your Dyslexia Therapist

Hello!

My name is Mrs. Widler. I am pleased to be one of your Crockett Elementary School Dyslexia Therapists. I am very excited to get the year started! I will be at Crockett part-time, in the mornings, and will continue to support our 9th -12th-grade dyslexia students at Weatherford High School. Let me tell you a few things about myself.

I have been the dyslexia therapist at Tison Middle School for the past five years. My first years with Weatherford ISD were here at Crockett Elementary, where I taught third grade and second grade. I have taught agriculture, kindergarten, sixth grade, and High School Algebra in three different states: Nevada, California, and Oklahoma. I also worked for a private company teaching teachers, AVID.

I was born and raised in the area of Santa Barbara, California. I graduated from California Polytechnic State University of San Luis Obispo. I have been fortunate to have lived in several states and towns. I even had the opportunity to travel to Australia, twice, to visit a very good friend of mine. However, I believe that Weatherford, Texas is my favorite!!

An interesting fact about me is that I am also dyslexic. I struggled in school because I did not find out I was dyslexic until college. My passion is to help my fellow dyslexia students so they do not have to struggle as I did. I even went back to college to complete my master's degree in Special Education with a concentration in dyslexia. That is how passionate I am about dyslexia! I am also a Certified Academic Language Therapist-Qualified Instructor (CALT-QI). This means I also teach future dyslexia therapists during the summer and on weekends.

When I am not teaching or planning wonderful things for us to do at school, I enjoy spending time with my family and all our horses, cows, and dogs.

Yours Truly,

Mrs. Karen Widler, M.Ed., CALT-QI
